Kathryn is a Senior Tax Counsel and manages the firm’s Tax Resolution practice. Kathryn represents clients at all levels of federal and state tax resolution, including collection, audit, appeals and U.S. Tax Court. She assists clients in resolving their federal and state tax liabilities, using such programs as offer in compromise, innocent spouse relief, penalty abatement and installment agreements. Kathryn also counsels clients on self-directed IRA investments and prohibited transactions. Kathryn’s other practice areas include capital gains planning, 1031 exchanges and planning, business succession planning, bankruptcy law, partnership tax and various other types of tax planning and tax law.

Prior to joining McLaughlinQuinn, Kathryn worked at a global accounting firm in its Credits and Incentives Group representing numerous types of industries, including Fortune 500 companies, in identifying and negotiating economic incentives with state and local governments, site selection, and preparing compliance filings for various state and local incentive programs throughout the United States. Kathryn also has experience in commercial lending, film financing and general corporate matters, including corporate governance.

Representative Matters:

  • Successfully represented small business owners in IRS Appeals to challenge proposed tax assessments
  • Regularly represent individuals before the IRS to obtain lien, levy and wage garnishment releases
  • Represented numerous clients in successfully obtaining IRS and state penalty abatements
  • Regularly advise and assist clients regarding Self Directed IRA investments
  • Represented small and medium size business to resolve IRS and state employer tax issues
  • Successfully represented business owners in state sales and use tax audits and appeals
  • Authored IRS Private Letter Ruling requests to achieve favorable results for clients
  • Negotiate and obtain favorable IRS and state tax installment agreements
  • Obtained innocent spouse relief from over $400,000 of income tax debt
  • Resolved license and registration blocks/suspensions with state taxing authorities
  • Experience guiding clients through IRS and State Offer in Compromise Programs
