Matt is an Associate in the firm’s Tax Planning group. Matt concentrates his practice in the areas of income tax planning, tax credit finance and syndication, 1031 exchanges, renewable energy tax incentives, tax planning for real estate development, private equity funds, family offices, and IRS and state tax audits and appeals. Matt develops tax planning strategies that minimize and defer business and individual taxes at the Federal, State and local level. Matt regularly counsels high net worth individuals and business executives on tax planning strategies for business and investment activities.

Prior to joining McLaughlinQuinn, Matt was a tax associate at a regional law firm with offices throughout New England and New York representing client industries including private equity, investment banking, real estate development, and tax credit finance. In addition to tax planning, Matt also has experience in tax controversy and general corporate matters.

  • Tax planning for real estate developers - converting ordinary income into capital gains
  • Sophisticated planning for 1031 Exchanges including drop and swaps, reverse exchanges, improvement exchanges, parking arrangements and Delaware Statutory Trusts
  • Represented Massachusetts real estate investment firm in connection with tax planning for the acquisition and development of large residential subdivision
  • Represented international investment bank in divestiture of leveraged partnership assets
  • Represented real estate developer in tax credit financing for mixed-use rehabilitation of historic building
  • Represented alternative energy investment firm in tax planning for utility scale solar farm
